The cleverly crafted musical adaptation of P.L. Travers masterpiece “Mary Poppins” was brought to life by Cameron Mackintosh and his production team last night. The show was complimented with stunning visuals and a masterful performance by the cast.

Mary Poppins is a lovely Disney classic and although it’s been shown on our TV screens for decades, it pales into insignificance when seen live on stage at QPAC. This authentic tale of the Banks Family is set in Old London town. Their Banks family is an upper class family who’s father is stern and set in his ways. They desperately need a nanny to get the family back on track. Their tireless search comes to an end when Mary Poppins answers an advert written by the Banks children.

Mary, played by Verity Hunt-Ballard breathes new life and values into the Banks family and takes the children on a wonderful journey down Cherry Tree Lane with her friend Bert, beautifully played by Matt Lee. The pair steal the show with their jaw-dropping performances and on-stage chemistry.

In fact, the whole cast were outstanding with a special mention to the 2 young children who shone on stage in last nights performance. It’s a musical the whole family will love. Beware: your feet will tap and you may breakout in a tune …

There are not enough superlatives to describe the performance, stagecraft, production, set design, costumes and music that ooze from the stage.

Suffice to say that is my opinion is a ‘supercalafragalisticexpialadocious’ musical.
